A young man martyred for his faith, once said, “He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose.” In 2005, Sherry (my wife) and I spent the summer at the Bwindi Community Health Centre, at the entrance to the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in southwest Uganda. What we saw forever changed the way we viewed life and death, success and significance. Following that trip, we’ve spent extended time in Burkina Faso, South Sudan, Bolivia, the Philippines, and NE Uganda.
Returning from places where we saw too many children dying for want of a few pennies worth of medicine, or access to clean water, the lens through which we saw life was forever changed. From that point on, every decision for our lives and futures has been evaluated in light of what is significant, rather than what the world calls “success.”
Today, my “retirement” is built around empowering sales people to reach their fullest potential – while holding fast to the realities of what is truly successful and significant. I don’t play games with peoples’ lives. I won’t encourage something that may later impugn their character. My goal and prayer is to give them whatever sales tools they need – along with the knowledge on how to use them – when they need it!
We are trying to contact the Rick Gregory who wrote THE CHRISTMAS BIKE. We are seeking permission to use it in our Hearing God’s Voice In Family discipleship training curriculum. We are ZOE Ministries International. I can send more information if you are the right Rick Gregory.
